Fall Prayer Partnership 2009: Partner with us!
Our fall prayer partnership is an annual commitment to concentrated prayer and fasting for a period of 12 weeks. We ask Fall Prayer Partners to commit to one half hour of prayer per week or one full hour of prayer and fasting one meal per week. This time slot should be the same every week in order to develop a habit. We encourage those who decide to include a fast to read the comments below. Weekly prayer guides will be posted here. To deepen your understanding of prayer please consider listening to our sermon series on The Lord's Prayer.
There are 62 partners praying weekly for a total of 36.5 hours!
Advice on Prayer
- Set a specific time and place for your prayer time.
- Minimize distractions.
- If you have trouble staying awake, pray audibly or go for a “prayer walk.”
- Promote adoration and thanksgiving in your prayer time by beginning with meditation upon the character of God and the good news of Jesus Christ.
- Read scriptures which reveal the attributes of God such as Isaiah 40.
- Read through the Lord’s Prayer and mentally review what each of the statements mean.
- As you focus on each prayer item ask yourself what would God have to do for this to take place, what would I have to do, and what would the church have to do?
Some Health Tips to Consider When Fasting
For most people, skipping one meal a week is not going to present any problems regarding health. However, if you have Diabetes, Hypoglycemia (Low blood sugar), peptic ulcer disease, a hiatal hernia, or are on routine medications that need to be taken with food, you may want to consult your Dr. and /or take some precautions before starting to fast.
Some health guidelines for anyone who is fasting include the following:
- Stay away from caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, spicy foods, and foods high in fat or refined sugar especially at the meal prior to the meal you fast.
- Eat foods that will digest slowly at the meal prior to the meal you fast. Consuming complex carbohydrates, fruit, vegetables, and proteins will help prevent large swings in blood sugar, and reduce the possibility of problems due to high levels of acid in the stomach.
- Drink plenty of water before and after the period of fasting. (An 8 ounce glass of water every 2 hours is a good amount.)
- If you experience, dizziness, extreme fatigue, cold clammy skin, tremors, severe headache, or palpitations, drink 4 ounces of milk, apple juice or orange juice, or suck on a piece of hard candy. If the symptoms subside, you may be experiencing low blood sugar and should consider praying, but not fasting, in the future. Eat a small meal (half of a meat and cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwich) to bring your blood sugar back to a normal level.
Ephesians 6:18
"With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints..."
